Sea Fever (2019) is a science-fiction horror-thriller directed by Neasa Hardiman. The film is set aboard a small Irish fishing trawler, where the crew encounters a deadly and mysterious threat lurking beneath the ocean.
The story follows Siobhán, a marine biology student, who joins a fishing crew on a research expedition. While out at sea, the crew begins to experience strange occurrences after their boat becomes entangled with an unknown lifeform in the deep waters. As an ominous parasite infects the ship, the crew members begin to fall ill, and paranoia spreads. Siobhán, a rational and science-driven person, must work with the crew to uncover the nature of the deadly organism before it’s too late.
Sea Fever combines elements of isolation, suspense, and survival horror, drawing comparisons to classic films like Alien and The Thing. The film explores the tension between science and superstition, with themes of fear, infection, and the unknown playing a central role in this gripping oceanic thriller.
