The Sons of The Beatles: A Continuing Musical Legacy

The legacy of The Beatles extends far beyond their phenomenal music, continuing through their sons, many of whom have also pursued musical careers and forged their own paths. Here are the prominent figures:

James McCartney (Son of Paul McCartney)

Born in 1977, James McCartney is a talented singer-songwriter and musician. He has released his own EPs and albums, and has also contributed to his father’s solo work, playing guitar and drums on albums like Flaming Pie and Driving Rain. James’s musical style sometimes echoes that of Paul McCartney, yet he maintains his distinct artistic identity.

Zak Starkey (Son of Ringo Starr)

Born in 1965, Zak Starkey is a highly respected drummer. He boasts a significant musical career, having toured and recorded extensively with prominent bands such as The Who (since 1996) and Oasis, among many others. Although his father gave him only one drum lesson, Zak is largely self-taught and developed his own unique style, earning critical acclaim independently of his famous lineage. (Ringo’s other son, Jason Starkey, born in 1967, also played drums in various bands).

Julian Lennon (Son of John Lennon and Cynthia Lennon)

Born in 1963, Julian Lennon is a multi-talented artist, working as a musician, photographer, author, and philanthropist. He embarked on a music career in the 1980s with his debut album Valotte, featuring hit singles like “Too Late for Goodbyes.” He has continued to release music and has also gained recognition for his photography and children’s books. Julian famously inspired iconic Beatles songs such as “Hey Jude” and “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.”

Dhani Harrison (Son of George Harrison)

Born in 1978, Dhani Harrison is a musician, composer, and singer-songwriter. He notably played a crucial role in completing his father’s final album, Brainwashed, after George’s passing in 2001. Dhani has his own projects, including the band thenewno2, and has released solo albums. He is also actively involved in preserving and curating his father’s extensive musical legacy.

Interestingly, in recent years, some of The Beatles’ sons have even collaborated. James McCartney, Sean Ono Lennon (John Lennon’s younger son with Yoko Ono), and Zak Starkey have teamed up on new music, creating significant buzz among fans and truly continuing the musical lineage of the Fab Four. While each forges their own path, their heritage undeniably links them to one of the most influential bands in history.
