At a vast and grand castle located in the heart of France, a handsome but cruel and selfish prince hosts a ball to which the most beautiful women from across the land have been invited.

All dance in hopes of winning the prince’s love and admiration, to the tune of Madame de Garderobe. The ball is interrupted by the arrival at the castle of an old beggar woman hoping to find shelter from the raging storm. All she had to offer the prince was a rose. Repulsed by her appearance and furious at the sudden interruption, the prince mocks her and refuses the rose. The woman then transforms into a beautiful sorceress, stunning the prince and frightening all his guests.

The prince begs the sorceress to forgive him, but seeing no love in his heart, she transforms him into a terrifying beast and his servants into household objects, before erasing himself, the castle, and the servants from the memories of the villagers, as well as those close to him.
