The Painted Veil (2006) is a romantic drama directed by John Curran, based on the novel by W. Somerset Maugham. Set in the 1920s, the story follows a tumultuous journey of love, betrayal, and redemption, centering on a British couple, Walter and Kitty Fane, portrayed by Edward Norton and Naomi Watts.

Walter, a stoic bacteriologist, and Kitty, a free-spirited socialite, have a strained and distant marriage.
