The 2006 film Ultraviolet, directed by Kurt Wimmer, is a dystopian science fiction action film set in a futuristic world where humans are at war with a group of genetically modified individuals known as Hemophages. The Hemophages, who possess enhanced strength, agility, and intelligence, are seen as a threat by the government and are hunted down relentlessly. The film stars Milla Jovovich as Violet Song Jat Shariff, a Hemophage who becomes the central figure in this struggle for survival and freedom.
In the near future, a virus created by the government has inadvertently led to the creation of Hemophages, individuals with vampiric traits and superhuman abilities. Fearing their growing power, the government, under the authoritarian control of Vice Cardinal Ferdinand Daxus (played by Nick Chinlund), begins a campaign to eliminate them.
Violet, a former human who was infected and transformed into a Hemophage, becomes a skilled warrior in the resistance movement. Her mission takes a pivotal turn when she is tasked with retrieving a mysterious weapon believed to be capable of eradicating her kind. Upon obtaining the weapon, she discovers it is not a device but a young boy named Six (Cameron Bright). Six’s blood holds the key to curing both the virus and the Hemophages, but it also makes him a target for Daxus, who intends to exploit him for his own purposes.
As Violet grows attached to Six, she vows to protect him at all costs, defying both the resistance and the government. The film follows her relentless battle against Daxus’s forces, showcasing intense action sequences, futuristic weaponry, and stylized combat. Along the way, Violet confronts her own tragic past and the choices she has made, ultimately risking everything to secure a future for Six and others like him.
