Thirteen Ghosts (2001)
A reimagining of William Castle’s 1960 horror classic, Thir13en Ghosts is a visually stunning, adrenaline-pumping thrill ride that combines supernatural terror with a unique, intricate setting. Directed by Steve Beck, this 2001 film is known for its inventive concept, terrifying ghost designs, and high-energy pace.
The story follows Arthur Kriticos (Tony Shalhoub), a widower who inherits an extraordinary glass mansion from his mysterious uncle, Cyrus (F. Murray Abraham). The house is no ordinary home—it’s a machine powered by the tortured souls of thirteen unique and terrifying ghosts. As Arthur, his two children, and their nanny explore the house, they become trapped when the mansion locks itself down, initiating the machine’s sinister purpose.
With the help of Dennis Rafkin (Matthew Lillard), a psychic who worked for Cyrus, and Kalina Oretzia (Embeth Davidtz), an activist opposing Cyrus’s experiments, Arthur uncovers the horrifying truth: the house is designed to open a portal to unimaginable power. To save his family, Arthur must navigate the mansion’s shifting walls, avoid the vengeful ghosts, and confront his own fears.
