Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992)
Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992) is the hilarious and heartwarming sequel to the iconic Home Alone (1990), once again directed by Chris Columbus and written by John Hughes. This family comedy brings back the lovable troublemaker Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) in an even bigger adventure than before—this time, he’s lost in New York City during the Christmas holidays.
The movie opens with the McCallister family preparing for their Christmas vacation to Florida. In the chaos of getting ready for the trip, Kevin is once again accidentally separated from his family at the airport, but this time, instead of being left at home, he boards a plane to New York City while the rest of the family heads to Florida. Excited about being on his own in the big city, Kevin quickly finds himself staying at the luxurious Plaza Hotel, thanks to his quick thinking and use of his father’s credit card.
However, Kevin’s joy is short-lived when he crosses paths with Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern), the bumbling burglars he foiled in the first movie. Fresh out of prison, Harry and Marv are back in New York to rob a toy store, and they are looking for revenge on Kevin, who they believe has ruined their plans before. But Kevin is more than ready for them, using his wits and a series of elaborate pranks to outsmart the burglars once again.
The film features the same combination of slapstick humor, physical comedy, and heart that made the original Home Alone such a hit. Kevin sets up a series of ingenious traps throughout a posh townhouse and the toy store, resulting in numerous painful but hilarious mishaps for Harry and Marv. The movie also introduces new characters, including Tim Curry as the sneaky hotel concierge and Rob Schneider as a friendly worker at the toy store, adding comedic depth to Kevin’s New York adventure.
